Breitenseer lichtspiele
the task
The Breitenseer Lichtspiele is one of the oldest cinemas in Europe and is located in the 14th district of Vienna. Its program offers interesting films and events, from documentaries to live readings. This cinema stands out very much from other modern cinemas with its program, far from the mainstream.
However, the outdated website (as of 01/2020) ensured that it hardly attracted new audiences. Thus, my goal was to develop a new appealing branding that underlines the uniqueness and charm of the Viennese cinema. Subsequently, the structure and design of the website was developed.

With the help of a comprehensive target group analysis, the design of a mood board and subsequently a stylescape, the first steps were taken to design the new brand identity.

The Prohibition font is reminiscent of the old cinema fonts that advertised movies above the theaters back in the day. The Objective Mk1 font is used for body text.

The new design has very bright and cheerful colors that harmonize with each other.

The logo was kept, vectorized and colored in red. The same lettering can be found outside the cinema above the entrance.

Small, playful illustrations are used - but sparingly, because the movie posters themselves should always be the focus.

In the next step, I used methods such as card sorting and the formulation of use cases and user stories to design the ideal user interface. The focus was on high usability. Through the development of various use cases, all functions important for the website were identified and integrated into the website.
The individual pages, which were first sketched as simple wireframes, I finally implemented in Adobe xD as a high fidelity prototype, as shown on the left.
Through regular user testing, evaluating their opinions and adapting the prototype, the new website of Breitenseer Lichtspiele was created.
